Fans of the Dauphin Kings are used to hearing Shane Luke’s name, but another name they have been getting used to so far this season is Bryn Chyzyk.
The Virden, MB native has been outstanding this season and was recently named the MJHL’s top rookie. After 57 games he sits tied for seventh in league scoring with 22 goals and 64 points. This freshman knows his way to the net!
“I have great line mates getting me the puck out there,” Chyzyk said. “Those line mates have really helped me get comfortable playing in the MJHL. Our powerplay has been really good too. As a team we’ve just been making good on our chances so far this season.”
Chyzyk sees a huge upside for the Kings as they prepare for the upcoming playoffs.
“We’re a pretty young team with a lot of offensive upside,” Chyzyk said. “That part is good but we’re not as gritty as we could be. Once we get a little bit more grit out of everyone we’ll be a much tougher team to play against every night.”
He says the club is ever evolving, and learns from both losses and victories. Chyzyk adds that besides adding some grit, he has other aspects of his game that he wants to work on.
“To be the player I want to be I have to keep my feet moving along the boards,” said Chyzyk. “When I get my feet moving I can create more chances for me and my line mates. I think I just have to shoot the puck a bit more and not always look for the perfect pass. Sometimes the best play is a shot on goal.”
Chyzyk is thoroughly enjoying his experience in Dauphin.
“Its been awesome here,” he said. “The boys are great and Credit Union Place is an awesome facility to play in. Things have been really great up here and I’m looking forward to how the season plays out.” |
